About me

Kiara is an African American woman born and raised in Los Angeles, California.

Kiara graduated high school in 2018 and is currently attending Long Beach City College studying Sociology, aspiring to become a Family and Youth Therapist providing services for families in crisis. After completing her 2 years at Long Beach City College, Kiara will transfer to a 4-year university and further her education by receiving her Master’s degree. Kiara previously worked at the Hawthorne City Hall working alongside lawyers and learning about many cases. Her experience here persuaded her to get into law and policy work. Kiara comes from a family of 11, where they’ve all experienced injustice by foster care and incarceration. This has fostered her passion for supporting youth and families that are in need of services and improving their living conditions.

Being a part of Beloved means the world to Kiara because she’s able to support youth and families living in or under the poverty line suffering from family separation, incarceration, and surviving the underground street economy. Working with an incredible team that shares similar values as her is something that she’s never been a part of. Therefore, Kiara takes her role as Self Determination Coordinator extremely seriously and works to the best of her ability to support and empower every youth she works with.
