Beloved Youth seeks to interrupt cycles of poverty, incarceration, and homelessness by supporting and resourcing young people and families with community-based alternatives. We partner with young people involved or at risk of involvement with the juvenile legal system and their families to reimagine and invest in housing innovations that foster a sense of belonging outside the institutions that have harmed us.

Beloved Youth evolved out of over 30 years of work at the Young Women’s Freedom Center (including the Freedom Research Institute), which highlighted the need for housing in order to interrupt system-involvement. Out of that expertise and experience, and guided by the Sister Warriors Freedom Charter, Beloved Youth emerged to address three major drivers of youth incarceration: poverty, housing instability, and homelessness.

Beloved Youth is the first pilot project of Beloved Village and has been designed out of the belief that all young people deserve a loving and supportive home, resources, and support grounded in their own self-determination.
