Young people navigating foster care & houselessness are overwhelmingly removed from their families for reasons directly related to poverty and lack of resources. This family separation – combined with insufficient number of foster families, inadequate support and resource provision to support family preservation and reunification, and an over-reliance on incarceration as temporary placement – results in a cycle of harm that disproportionately impacts girls and trans youth of color.
Founded in 2020, Beloved Community Housing builds on 30 years of work by Young Women’s Freedom Center to provide alternatives to incarceration and support families in breaking this cycle of poverty, housing insecurity, and family separation.
